Covent Garden Opera Competition 2024

Competition rules

  • The competition is open to any Nationality,  there is no age limit.
  • Applicants must send a short CV, a copy of their Passport or ID, video(s) link and proof of payment at info@coventgardenoperafestival.co.uk
  • Applicants must submit a video recording of one or more arias with Orchestra, piano accompaniment, backing tracks or midi backing tracks accompaniment from the repertoire list below: Contestants may perform with the score or from memory (there is no advantage if you perform from memory). 
  • Application deadline 23 July 2024. Winners names will be published online and contacted via email by 26 July 2024.
  • In the application, from the repertoire list, specify in order of preference one or more arias (or duets) you wish to perform if you will be selected as the one of winners for the 14 September 2024 concert in London. 
  • Multiple winners will be selected to perform with the London City Philharmonic on 14 September 2024. 
  • You can specify or change which Arias you would like to perform from the list even after you have submitted your application but no later than 23 July 2024.
  • If you wish to perform an Aria which is not on the list, please send a request to info@coventgardenoperafestival.co.uk
  • Applicants can send one video or multiple videos.
  • Only video links will be accepted (video links with a password will also be accepted). Videos that need to be downloaded will not be accepted.

Prize Concerts and Oportunities

  • 1st prize winner will receive £1000 (British pounds) and be invited as a soloist with the London City Philharmonic in their 2024/2025 season and possibly in the 2025 Covent Garden Opera Festival season.
  • Multiple winners, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be selected to perform with the London City Philharmonic on 14 September 2024. 
  • Music agents will be invited to the concert, this could be a great opportunity for soloists to be noticed and maybe get signed by an agent.
  • The concert will be recorded with professional audio and video and a copy will be sent to the soloists. 
  • 2nd prize is £500 (British pounds) plus an official diploma.
  • 3rd prize is £400 (British pounds) plus an official diploma.
  • Semi-finalists will receive an official diploma.
  • 2nd, and 3rd prize winners and semi-finalists might also have an opportunity later to be invited as soloists to perform with the London City Philharmonic during the 2024/2025 and 2025/2025 seasons and the 2025 Covent Garden Opera Festival season.
